The Buddy Poppy anchor was presented to the Secretary by Mr. Merrill in honor of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard men who have given their lives in service. Secretary Frank Knox then turned over the Buddy Poppy Anchor to Captain Hogan, whose post will place the anchor on a ship proceeding to sea on Memorial Day. The flowered emblem will be consigned to the deep in memory of the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard dead. Photographed May 21, 1943.
