They hear us calling the kookaburras and often fly over before the kookaburras get here. Obviously used to human contact, this one will take food from our hands and eat some herself and take some back to her babies. There's also a pied butcherbird who has discovered our home from our back verandah. He/she is a little shyer but if feeling very hungry will take food direct from our fingers. All three species are quite wary of each other and usually quite territorial (especially the magpies), but for the sake of free food, declare a temporary truce on our back verandah.
