This life cycle is interesting because the butterfly lays its eggs on the seed pod of a very primitive plant which contains numerous poisonous chemicals. This butterfly`s offspring are the only known insects or animals to make use of the plant as a food host. After hatching, the caterpillars eat the seed pod and injest the poisons.
