Pilot Edward C. Peterson put the plane into the air for the first time over Mission Island at Fort William in the summer of 1911. In addition to piloting the plane, Edward C. Peterson built the aircraft himself in a workshop at the rear of a restaurant on Victoria Avenue. In this photograph Peterson is readying for takeoff at the corner of Edward Street and Arthur Street. Peterson passed away in 1940 and is buried at Forest Lake Cemetery near Minneapolis, Minnesota.
