USS Ward (DD 139) fired the first shots of WWII on December 7, 1941, when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. During the Battle of Ormoc Bay, December 7, 1944, Ward was attacked by Japanese kamikazes and was damaged. USS O’Brien (DD 725) scuttled the ship. Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels Collection.
