Something weird is happening this season though, and I don't know what it is. Traffic seems heavier. Laura has a cold, so I nipped out to Asda to get some supplies in (tissues, meds, etc). This takes me past the ground and through Anfield. It was always the case that anyone with a piece of land two inches bigger than the size of a car opened a private car park for matchdays. But now it really is every single inch of space. Over the years I've watched the prices creep up from £4 to £5 and even up to £6 for big Liverpool games. Today I realised that the piece of scrap ground on Utting Avenue opposite Anfield School that used to be a tyre shop is charging a princely £12 - TWELVE QUID - to park your car for a couple of hours. Even the filling station on Oakfield Road just closes, as it's clearly far more profitable to fill your forecourt with cars than it is to sell petrol. Mad, mad, mad.
