This plaque is on the side of the Locarno Theatre, which used to be the Liverpool Olympia. I have to admit, until I saw this I'd never heard of Frank Matcham, but seemingly if you needed a theatre building between 1890 and 1915, you talked to Frank - or one of the two guys he trained. It's got a really interesting history, being designed as an indoor circus with pullies and traps for raising animals from the basement to the stage. It also seemingly was one of the largest auditoriums in Liverpool, accommodating 3,750 people in it's heyday. I've never been in there. How about you?
