Date: January 2, 1933 Series Title: Print Collections General Note: In 1932, George E. Hussey, official greeter of Miami, organized the first Palm Festival Game. The Festival of Palms Bowl game was held twice, following the 1932 and 1933 seasons. Following the success of these games, backers organized another game for New Year's Day 1935 under the Orange Bowl name. The two Festival of Palms Bowl games were not recognized as bowl games by the NCAA due to the fact that one team, the University of Miami, was guaranteed a berth regardless of record. The 1935 and subsequent Orange Bowl games however were recognized as official bowl games since neither participating team was automatically granted a berth regardless of record.
