Keywords: bombardier q400 dash 8 dash8 undercarriage landing gear touchdown The plane I flew to Belfast on (and incidentally back again on exactly the same plane) was a Bombardier Q400 which is slightly unusual these days by being a turboprop and having a high wing. The location of my seat meant that I got a fantastic view of the undercarriage strut, engine nacelle and flap mechanism. Aviation fans might recall that around 2007 the Dash 8 series had a spot of trouble with collapsing undercarriages, with I think three collapses in fairly close proximity. It would have been embarrassing if that happened at Belfast City, the UK assembly plant for Bombardier! As you can see, all was well and the strut performed beautifully. It's really interesting to see just how much it compresses as the plane slows down and loses lift.
