Keywords: Salt mines as ancient as Tahuantinsuyo. The local inhabitants harness the salt water that comes out of the ground (from a spring named "Qoripujio") and take it to pits in which the water evaporates under the heat of the sun, leaving only salt. This is later treated before being sold at the local market. There are around three thousand pits, and visiting them is quite breathtaking. Inhabitants show visitors traditional techniques and allow them to participate in salt collection.
