One of the best powerful radio stations in the world will be added to the Voice of America, when the Navy Bureau of Yards and Docks completes the installation it is building at Tangier, North Africa, for the State Department. Construction began in mid-July 1949 and is expected to be completed by October 1, 1950. The station will comprise a receiver plant and a transmitter (depicted here) to be located several miles apart in the International Zone of Tangier. The transmitter plant will include four 100,000-watt transmitters and two-50,000-watt transmitters. The function of the station will be to receive programs broadcast on high frequency, originating in the United States, and to rebroadcast such programs on high frequency to various areas of Europe and the Near East.
