Hebron, West Bank, Palestinian Territories - October 21, 2010: Known as the Ibrahimi Mosque to Muslims and the Cave of the Patriarchs to Jews, this religious landmark, seen in the upper right of the photo, is the traditional burial site of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Three Jews (including two Israeli soldiers) are outside near the entrance of the building. In the foreground are Palestinian women walking with a baby, and on the left are a group of Palestinian men. A military post is in the center of the photo and topped with netting; below it is an entrance to the mosque compound.

Fortifications 4.5 km long around the Old City of Jerusalem. Built since the time of David, destroyed many times, then rebuilt and enlarged, including: by King Hezekiah after the Maccabean Revolt in 150 BC, by Herod in the time of Jesus and by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the mid-15th century. This last reconstruction has survived to this day.

Inside there is a shrine allegedly housing the head of Prophet Yahya (John the Baptist). In an adjacent garden there is the mausoleum of Saladin. Worshippers and families used to gather every Friday on the big square outside it walls to enjoy the market.
