Istanbul, Turkey - September 03, 2022: Galata Tower was built by the Byzantine Emperor Anastasius as a lighthouse in 528, but the Genoese rebuilt the tower in 1349. The tower, which was damaged by the earthquake in the 1500s, was repaired by Architect Hayreddin. III. During the Selim period, a bay window was added to the upper floor of the tower. When the tower suffered another fire in 1831, II. Mahmut climbed two more floors above the tower. Finally restored again in 2020
