$Low to short , tuberous -rooted, sometimes only 5cm tall; stem with several brownish basal sheaths. Leaves 2-5, oval to lanceolate, decreasing in size up the stem, usually pointed. Flowers small and inconspicuous, yellowish-green, often tinged with reddish- or purplish-brown, faintly honey scented; borne in a rather lax spike, the lateral sepals spreading, the upper sepal and petals forming a hood; lip 6-8mm, usually yellowish-brown, oblong, notched with a small tooth in the middle (so appearing 3-toothed); spur very short.\nHabitat: Grassland and woodland margins, occasionally on rock ledges or dunes, generally in upland or mountains on calcareous soils, up to 2500m.\nFlowering Season: The Frog Orchid flowers in late May and early June.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except Spitsbergen.\n\nThis Picture is made during a long weekend in the South of Belgium in June 2006.$
