Himantoglossum hircinum, the lizard orchid.
Low to short , tuberous -rooted, sometimes only 5cm tall; stem with several brownish basal sheaths. Leaves 2-5, oval to lanceolate, decreasing in size up the stem, usually pointed. Flowers small and inconspicuous, yellowish-green, often tinged with reddish- or purplish-brown, faintly honey scented; borne in a rather lax spike, the lateral sepals spreading, the upper sepal and petals forming a hood; lip 6-8mm, usually yellowish-brown, oblong, notched with a small tooth in the middle (so appearing 3-toothed); spur very short.\nHabitat: Grassland and woodland margins, occasionally on rock ledges or dunes, generally in upland or mountains on calcareous soils, up to 2500m.\nFlowering Season: The Frog Orchid  flowers in late May and early June.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except Spitsbergen.\n\nThis Picture is made during a long weekend in the South of Belgium in June 2006.

Medium to tall, rather stout, tuberous-rooted perennial, the stem with faint purplish margins. Lower leaves4-6, elliptic-oblong, dull green, unspotted, often partly withered by flowering time. Flowers pale gray-green, finally spotted, with purple spots and streaks, borne in a long spike, many flowered, rather foul-smelling; sepals and petals forming a small hood, the lip very long, often spiraling, 30-50mm, with 2 short arms near the top and a long central, tall-like central lobe notched at the tip; spur present, 7-12mm long, downward pointing.\nHabitat: Grassland, scrub and open woods or woodland margins, road-verges or sand dunes, generally at low attitudes, but up to 1800m in the South of its Range.\nFlowering Season: June-July.\nDistribution: SE Britain, Belgium, Netherlands, France and Germany.\n\nThis Picture is made during a long weekend in the South of Belgium in June 2006.
