Historic Restored Log Cabins known as the Hoskins farmstead served as a staging area for British troops during the battle at Guilford Courthouse today managed as a National Military Park by the National Park Service in North Carolina as a commeroation of a famous battle during the Revolutionary War. There is located there the Hoskins house, a reconstructed kitchen, a barn and a blacksmith shop on site. The farmstead also has a kitchen garden and several plots of field crops, all representative of an 18th Century farm. Today, only 7.5 acres of the original 150-acre farmstead is still intact.

Vacherie, Louisiana -- May 3, 2017: This slave hut is one of the twenty duplex structures that housed approximately 100 slaves. The slave community, comprised of men, women and children, worked in the field or in the Oak Alley mansion. Following the Civil War and the abolition of slavery, many formerly enslaved individuals found themselves trapped in sharecropping arrangements, struggling to pay off debts and secure a better future.

The Cherokee were the first native American tribe to develop a written language.  Its creator, Sequoyah, is the only person known to single-handedly create a written language. The Cherokee Phoenix was bilingual, printed in both Cherokee and English.
