The Cathedral of Santo Stefano is the main place of Catholic worship in the city of Prato, located in Piazza del Duomo. In July 1996, Pope John Paul II elevated it to the dignity of a minor basilica. Inside there is the most important cycle of frescoes by Filippo Lippi, outside the external pulpit built by Michelozzo and decorated by Donatello. The Cathedral is one of the oldest churches in Prato. Testified as early as the 10th century as a parish church of Santo Stefano, but existing at least from the 6th century it was the main church of Borgo al Cornio, the primitive Prato settlement. Restructured between the 10th and 15th centuries, it appears unified due to the balanced purity of the volumes and the vibrant two-tone color of the external facings, in alberese and green marble from Prato (serpentine). The current structure dates back to a period of reconstruction that began in the 12th century. The sides and the Romanesque cloister date back to that century. Starting from the early years of the thirteenth century, the construction of the bell tower by Guidetto da Como began, except the last cell at the top completed in 1356. During the fourteenth century, due to the growing popularity of the relic of the Sacra Cintola (in the city since 1141 according to tradition), the building was enlarged: in the first half of the century the transept was built (perhaps based on a project by Giovanni Pisano), and in the second half the Cappella della Cintola was erected and the construction of the new facade began, which was completed only in 1456. The buildings that were in front of the facade, moreover, were demolished in order to create a new, very large square, to accommodate the crowd on the occasion of the display of the sacred relic.

Detail of the Arc de Triomphe. The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris, France, standing at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the centre of Place Charles de Gaulle. The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Le Départ de 1792 (or La Marseillaise), by François Rude. The sculptural group celebrates the cause of the French First Republic during the 10 August uprising. Above the volunteers is the winged personification of Liberty. This group served as a recruitment tool in the early months of World War I and encouraged the French to invest in war loans in 1915–1916.
