Euphorbia cyparissias, or Cypress Spurge, is a perennial herb with erect stems, narrow and needle-like leaves, and yellow, crescent-shaped glands on the rim of its cup-shaped flowers. The flowers appear in spring and early summer, consisting of lime-yellow bracts that slowly fade to red-orange as they mature. It spreads by rhizomes and can be quite invasive.

This is a small to medium size perennial herbaceous plant of the buttercup family, native to marshes, fens, ditches and wet woodland in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It flowers between April and August, dependent on altitude and latitude.

$Medium to tall, hairy or almost hairless biennial or perennial; stems erect, to 1.5m, branched above. Basal and lower leaves pinnately-lobed with a small end lobe, generally withered by flowering time; upper leaves 1-2pinnately-lobed, half-clasping the stem. Flower heads bright golden-yellow, 15-25mm, with 12-15 rays, borne in large flat-topped, branched clusters; inner flower-bracts dark-tipped.\nHabitat: Waste and poor land, field boundaries, overgrazed meadows, woodland; roadsides, banks, sand-dunes, on a wide variety of soils.\nFlowering Season: June-November.\nDistribution: Europe, except the extreme north; naturalized in Finland. A widely naturalized weed in North America and New Zealand.\n \nA widespread weed; extremely poisonous to livestock, cattle and horses, but not to sheep.$
