A bridles goby, Coryphopterus glaucofraenum, rests on the sand at the Blue Heron Bridge, Florida.
Whitebarred Goby Amblygobius phalaena occurs in the tropical Pacific Ocean from the Philippines to the Society Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to southern Australia (including Lord Howe Island) and Rapa Island and throughout Micronesia in a depth range from 2-52m, but usually not deeper than 20m, max. length 15cm. \nThe monogamous species lives solitary or in pairs, feeding by sifting mouthfuls of sand and expelling it through the gills, to capture small invertebrates, organic matter, and large quantities of algae. \nAdults inhabit coastal reefs and lagoons on sand and rubble margins of algal reefs and sometimes near seagrass beds. \nLembeh Strait, Indonesia,\n1°27'33.36 N 125°13'52.734 E at 2m depth

Rainfords Goby Koumansetta rainfordi occurs in the tropical Western Pacific from the western and eastern Australia to Tonga, north to Taiwan and the Philippines and throughout Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Marshall Islands, the Solomons and Fiji in a depth range from 2 to 30m, max standard length 8.5cm. \nThe species inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms of turbid coastal reefs, solitary or in small groups. \n\
The Bali sand-goby, Papillogobius meanobranchus, is a species of goby found in the western Pacific Ocean, from Indonesia to the Philippines. It is a small fish, growing to a maximum length of about 2 inches (5 cm). The Bali sand-goby is a sand-dwelling fish and is often found in burrows in the sand.

Y-Bar Shrimp Goby Cryptocentrus fasciatus occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from East Africa to Melanesia and the Great Barrier Reef in a depth range from 5 to 20m, max. length 14cm. There are different color variations, a yellow-brown one (like this specimen), pale greyish or blackish variations. \nThe species is found on sand near patch reefs, usually in burrows with alpheid shrimps. \nTwo individuals sometimes share a burrow, and these may be of different color. \nThis specimen was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia \nThe five broad brown Y-shaped bars that gave the species its common name are not clearly visible here.\n1°28'47.196 N 125°14'12.42 E at 5m depth

Yellow Pygmy-Goby Lubricogobius exiguus occurs in the subtropical and tropical Western Pacific from southern Japan to Indonesia in a depth range from 5 100m, max. length 4cm. \n\nThere are a lot of bottles at the bottom of the Lembeh Strait. Of course, throwing bottles into the sea is not a good idea. But at least glass is chemically inert and bottles are welcome shelters for small fishes, crustaceans and cephalopods. \n\nLubricogobius exiguus is a microhabitat specialist goby that inhabits benthic substrates such as barnacle shells and empty glass bottles on sandy or muddy bottoms, either in pairs or singly. No wonder, in seven or eight out of ten cases bottles are inhabited by Yellow Pygmy-Gobies.\n\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°28'8.916 N 125°14'39.102 E at 24m depth
