Rugged desert mountain slopes devoid of any vegetation surround the Hoover Dam reservoir, a small portion of which appears in the bottom sixth of the this horizontal composition. A steep, dark brown mountainside appears at left, sloping down toward center frame. A slightly lighter brown land mass - not so steep - slopes toward center from the right margin. The background is filled with a lighter and more colorful land mass - pinks, tans, grays. A nearly white wide band of rock surrounds the reservoir, exposed by the low water level. The three separate land masses create converging natural lines with each other and the water. The water is slate blue and its positioning leads the eye into the background where the brighter colors appear.
