Small, rather slender Tree, with smooth silvery-gray Branches. Leaves pinnate, with 5-7 pairs of oblong toothed leaflets, green, hairy beneath. Flowers 8-10mm, in domes clusters.\nHabitat: Woodland, Hedgerows, Moors and Mountains to 2400m, mainly on light Soils. \nFlowering Season: May-June.\nDistribution: Western Europe, except the far North.\n\nThis is a common Species in the Netherlands. Also planted in Parks.

Rhaphiolepis indica, commonly known as India hawthorn, is a dense, broad-leaved evergreen shrub that typically grows to 4-6’ tall and as wide. The beaked Stewartia is a deciduous, ornamental, multi-stemmed shrub or small tree. The plant may reach a height of 13 to 33 feet tall and 8 to 13 feet wide. White Camellia-like blooms appear from May to July, and the red woody beaked capsule fruits appear in September. The bark has furrows and ridges, and unlike the Chinese Stewartia, it does not peel. The plant is a member of the Theaceae family and is related to the Camellia. This low-maintenance plant is grown for its ornamental value.
