Turkmenistan. 11 km outside the capital Ashgabat in the village Gypjak you will find the largest mosque of Central Asia, called the Turkmenbashi Ruhy Mosque. Built by the leader of Turkmenistan, Niyazov, who gave himself the name Turkmenbashi, meaning Head of the Turkmen.Next to the mosque, in preparation of his death, he had the beautiful mausoleum built that you see in this picture. Together with his mother and his two brothers he is buried here. The mausoleum is built of white marble and a stunning golden dome and decorated with scènes of the Koran and phrases of the Ruhnama, the famous book Turkmenbashi has written.
