In northeastern outlands of the Little San Bernardino Mountains dwells the Skull Rock presentation of Joshua Tree National Park. An atypically large specimen of Cylindropuntia Ramosissima, commonly Diamond Cholla, competes in the overlapping plant communities nearby. In response to environmental factors such as lower temperatures, C. Ramosissima turns purple, a trait shared by numerous other Cylindropuntia (Cholla).

Dhalkut Wilayat, Dhofar Governorate, Oman: incense tree (Boswellia sacra) in the wilderness, mountains near the Yemeni border- the Frankincense tree or olibanum tree is a tree in the Burseraceae family, it is the main representative of the genus Boswellia, from which frankincense is extracted, native to the Arabian Peninsula, specifically to to Oman and Yemen - The resin is harvested by making a shallow incision in the trunk or branches of the tree and removing a narrow strip of bark. A milky sap flows out, which coagulates on contact with air and which is then collected by hand -  Tentative Unesco world heritage site, the area as a whole including Dhofar region in Oman and Hawf region in Yemen has been described as a center of plant diversity, and as a 'fog oasis' in the Arabian Peninsula which is predominantly arid.
