Temple and Oracle of Apollo the Didymaion. Apollo Didymiae, Apollo of Didymus. Didyma  was an ancient Ionian sanctuary, the modern Didim, Turkey, containing a temple and oracle of Apollo, the Didymaion.  Next to Delphi, Didyma was the most renowned oracle of the Hellenic world, first mentioned among the Greeks in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo. Both Herodotus and Pausanias dated the origins of the oracle at Didyma before the Ionian colonization of this coast.

Construction at the complex began during the reign of Senusret I (reigned 1971–1926 BCE) in the Middle Kingdom (around 2000–1700 BCE) and continued into the Ptolemaic Kingdom (305–30 BCE), although most of the extant buildings date from the New Kingdom. \n\nIt is part of the monumental city of Thebes (Luxor), and in 1979 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with the rest of the city.
