Crocodile Fish Cymbacephalus beauforti occurs in the tropical West Pacific in shallow waters from 1-12 m. The species, an ambush predator, lives on sand or rubble substrates of sheltered or semi-exposed reefs and is also found in coral reefs and mangrove areas. \nThe cirri (= leafy appendages above the eyes) break up the outline of the eye, so its much harder for their prey to spot them. Somehow looking a bit like a crocodile, this species is much smaller, the maximum length is 50 cm, but the common length is 35 cm. Papuan Scorpionfish Scorpaenopsis papuensis occurs in the tropical Pacific Ocean from Indonesia and the Philippines to the Society Islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to the Great Barrier Reef and Fiji in a depth range from 1-40m, max. length 25cm, common 20cm. The Scorpionfish, a predator, uses the camouflage as a hunting skill. In a reef full of sponges, tube worms, hydrozoans, corals, the outline of the fish often disappears completely. This is a very small juvenile specimen of 20mm length. Blue Striped Tunicate Rhopalaea circula occurs in the Western Central Pacific in a depth range from 6-18m. Tunicates do not have backbones, but they are vertebrates, why? At some point in their life cycle, they have a tail, a central nerve cord, a pharyngeal gill cleft and a notochord. Often mistaken for sponges, it's simple to test: Tunicates have two siphons and when disturbed, they can rapidly close them. Dwarf Lionfish (= Shortfin Turkeyfish) Dendrochirus brachypterus occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific in reef flats and shallow lagoons, in areas with weed-covered rocks on sandy substrates in a depth range from 2-80m, max. length 17 cm. The reproduction of Dendrochirus brachypterus is particularly interesting, as the female possesses a special type of ovary. Like other Lionfish species, this one has venomous dorsal spines, 13 of them. Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, 1°29'7 \
