Memphis, Tennessee, USA - August 15, 2015:  Statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest in Memphis, Tennessee with a Confederate flag during a gathering of protesters.  Forrest was the first leader of the Ku Klux Klan.  The statue was removed on December 20, 2017.

Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Venice, Italy - June 1th 2024:  Equestrian statue seen in a very low camera angle against a blue sky and an old church. The statue shows Bartolomeo Colleoni (1400-1475) and are made of made of Andrea del Verrocchio in 1488 and it is raised in front of the basilica which has a long history, the building where completed in 1430 and has since in periods been the burial place for the dodges of Venezia
The Peace Monument, completed in 1878, stands 44 feet high in the northwestern quadrant of the circle to the west of the U.S. Capitol Building. It is dedicated to naval deaths during the Civil War.\n\nAt the top of the monument, a classically draped female figure representing Grief cries against the shoulder of History. History has inscribed on the tablet she holds, “They died that their country might live.” \n\nAnother classically-dressed female figure, Victory, stands below the other two, holding aloft a laurel wreath. At her feet are two small children, representing Mars and Neptune, the gods of war and the sea, respectively. \n\nThe monument is the work of sculptor Franklin Simmons (1839-1913).\n\nIn the background is the west face of the Capitol Building.
