The splendid 14th Century castle is now reopened to the public, post lockdown. Raby Castle, Darlington, North Yorkshire, England on Sunday, 30th May, 2021.

Tonbridge Castle in Kent, England. After William the Conqueror took England at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, his kinsman Richard Fitz Gilbert was tasked with guarding the crossing of the River Medway. He built a simple Motte-and-bailey castle. The castle was later besieged in 1088 when Fitz Gilber's descendants rebelled against William's son, King William II. The king had the castle and Tonbridge burnt to the ground in revenge. By 1100, a new wooden castle was replaced with a stone shell keep and in 1295 a stone wall encircled the town. The castle was used to safekeep the great seal of England for a while when King Edward I visited France. In 1793, the mansion was built, and both buildings are now Grade I listed.

$Minster Lovell Hall, a ruined 15th century Oxfordshire manor house beside the River Windrush.\n\nConstruction began in the 1430s by William, Baron of Lovell who was one of the richest men in England. After several changes of hands the hall was abandoned and eventually demolished in the 1700s, it’s now part of English Heritage’s collection of sites.$

The Gothic revival Wray castle on the shores of Lake Windermere.Under the care of the National Trust now, it is not really a castle although its certainly looks the part! Towers and turrets abound but it was a private house when built.1840 saw its arrival . It was commissioned by a retired surgeon but it seems when his wife laid eyes on it she refused point blank to live in it. its architect drank himself to death before it was completed....a rather sad story but a very interesting building.The grounds of the castle are very extensive and afford really lovely country walks.There are great views also from the Castle itself.
