Common in large lowland rivers in eastern Europe, but staged a strong comeback in Western Europe in the 1990s. Now abundant in rivers such as the Rhine, Elbe and Danube, right down to their estuaries.\nHabitat:\nSlow flowing lower sections of large rivers with sandy beds.
