There are three kinds of trees known as redwoods. They are the coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and the giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) of California; and the dawn redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) from China. Quite which of these redwood species has made it to Mitcham in Surrey, England, I am not sure. Below: more redwood trees growing in England.

Thuja occidentalis, also known as northern white cedar, eastern white cedar, or arborvitae, is an evergreen coniferous tree, in the cypress family Cupressaceae, which is native to eastern Canada and much of the northcentral and northeastern United States. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.
