The Gothic chapel was built in the 15th century. The Christian III's monument was created by the Flemish sculptor and architect Cornelis Floris de Vriendt in 1574-1575 and placed in the chapel in 1580. The Frederick II's monument was built 1594–1598 by the Flemish sculptor Gert van Egen, a pupil of Cornelis Floris.
