The Samanid Mausoleum is a mausoleum located in the northwestern part of Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It was built in the 10th century as the resting place of the powerful and influential Islamic Samanid dynasty that ruled the Samanid Empire from approximately 900 to 1000.

Colchester Castle is the largest Norman keep in Europe, built on the foundations of the Roman Temple of Claudius and dating from 1076. It was constructed using Roman bricks and stone which were already locally available in large quantities. Colchester itself is known as Great Britain’s oldest recorded town and the Castle has been used variously as a military structure, a gaol and, from 1860, a museum.

St Botolph’s Priory in Colchester, Essex, Eastern England, was founded around 1093 and housed Augustinian canons until its dissolution in 1536. It was constructed using flint and reused Roman bricks which were locally readily available thanks to the town’s earlier occupation as a Roman settlement. The Priory was built in typical Norman style with thick circular pillars, round arches and a highly decorative West Front, of which this image shows part. The Priory was badly damaged in 1648 during the siege of Colchester in the Civil War.
