San Juan, Puerto Rico — March 26, 2019: Castillo San Felipe del Morro, also known simply as El Morro is a citadel built between the 16th and 18th century in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The fortification was designed to guard the entrance to San Juan bay. In 1983, the citadel was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fortín de San Gerónimo de Boquerón is a small fort located at the mouth of the Condado Lagoon, across from the historic sector of Miramar in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Elmina, Ghana: São Jorge da Mina Castle, also known simply as Mina or 'Feitoria da Mina'. The foundation stone for the fortress was laid on January 21, 1482 by the Portuguese seafarer Diogo de Azambuja, who commanded a fleet of nine ships, around 600 sailors and soldiers and around 100 craftsmen and servants on behalf of the Portuguese King John II. First established as a trade settlement, the castle later became one of the most important stops on the route of the Atlantic slave trade. The Dutch seized the fort from the Portuguese in 1637, and took over all of the Portuguese Gold Coast in 1642. The slave trade operated under the Dutch until 1814. In 1872, the Dutch Gold Coast, including the castle, became a British possession - colonial architecture - UNESCO World Heritage Site.
