Bayreuth, Germany - August 6 - 2022: Markgräfliches Opernhaus facade above the entrance. The driving force behind this exceptional project was the music and theater enthusiast Margravine Wilhelmine von Brandenburg-Bayreuth (1709-1758). The reason for its construction was the wedding of her only daughter, Elisabeth Friederike Sophie, to Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg, which was celebrated at great expense in 1748. The leading theater architect of the time, the Italian Giuseppe Galli Bibiena, who had previously worked for the Viennese imperial court, was hired as the architect of the new opera house. His son Carlo Galli Bibiena took over the on-site construction supervision and created numerous stage designs and festive decorations up to the Margravine's death.
