The Pere Marquette 1225 is a historic steam locomotive that played a significant role in the development of rail transportation in the United States. Built in 1941 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio, the 1225 was part of the Berkshire class of steam locomotives. It was specifically designed for heavy freight service and was one of the last steam locomotives built for the Pere Marquette Railroad. The locomotive was named after the Pere Marquette Railway, a major railroad in the Midwest during the early to mid-20th century.\n\nFollowing its active service on the Pere Marquette Railway, the 1225 faced the possibility of being scrapped like many other steam locomotives during the transition to diesel-electric power. Cedar Falls, Iowa, USA - August 23, 1958: Greyhound steam traction engine being driven in the Threshermen's Field Days parade. Although steam engines and steam tractors were used in the US until the late 1930s and early 40s, collector goups were already forming by the time this photo was taken in 1958 to preserve steam engines and tractors. Scanned film with grain.
