Shimmering vibrant colours and diversity of species such as this Side-stripe Palm Pit Viper, marks Costa Rica as one of the principal Central America countries with a territory and tropical rainforest that hosts migration from north America and south America to give it unparalleled numbers and variation of birdlife
A golden phase eyelash viper (Bothriechis schlegelii) in the lowland forest of Costa Rica. This arboreal poisonous snake is named for modified spiky scales that protrude above the eyes. Females grow slightly longer than males and can reach 55–82 cm (22–32 in). There are several color phases, including golden yellow, red, brown, green (see my other photo of this species), or even pink, with various combinations thereof. It is not clear what the purpose of the gaudier colors is, as some of these individuals are very easy (for humans, at least) to spot in the forest.
