Giant manta ray (Manta birostris) floating underwater in the tropical ocean
Ribboned Sweetlips Plectorhinchus polytaenia occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from West Coast India to Australia in a depth range from 5-40m on coastal and seaward reefs, max. length 50cm. The species is found singly, in small groups under ledges or large resting aggregations by day, foraging for small invertebrates at night. Adults are found on deep, current-prone slopes with rich invertebrate growth; juveniles on sheltered reefs nearby. \nBluestreak Cleaner Wrasses Labroides dimidiatus usually occur in pairs in the tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 1-40m, usually 1-30m, max. length 14cm. The species creates 'cleaning stations' to which fishes come to have crustacean ectoparasites and mucus removed. Cleaning intensity is not related to client size or commonness. Even hands of divers will be cleaned if presented to the cleaning station! \nThis specimen was encountered in the Triton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia, 3°54'50.604 S 134°6'0.828 E at 15m depth.

Two large schools of fish, the lower one, Bigeye Trevally Caranx sexfasciatus, occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 1-146m, common length 60cm, max. 120cm. A lot of fish species are more difficult to approach. Caranx sexfasciatus has a moderate escape distance. The species forms slow-moving schools during the day, dispersing at night feed, mainly on fish and crustaceans. On top the school of Black and White Snapper Macolor niger. The species occurs in tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 2-90m, max. length 75cm, common 35cm. Adults are found on steep outer walls of lagoon, channel and seaward slopes in large schools. This large school is regularly encountered at the steep outer wall of the famous Blue Corner. Two other fish species inbetween: Black Triggerfish Melichthys niger and Bignose Unicornfish Naso vlamingii. Blue Corner, Palau 7°8'1.9 N 134°13'18.81 E at 8m depth

Underwater image of Great Hammerhead shark in the blue ocean off Bimini, The Bahamas. Killing due to misconception of sharks as well as unsustainable fishing to obtain its fins has led to a dramatic collapse in shark populations worldwide. As a consequence the hammerheadshark as well as other species of sharks are now critically endangered.
