It faces the center of the open space and the buildings of Hotel Europa and the famous Tío Pepe sign. Although it may seem like an antique, it has been in this square since its creation in 1993.\n\nThe City Council wanted to honor the king known as the best mayor of Madrid due to the improvements the city experienced during his reign. The location was chosen by the people of Madrid, who rejected the area around Puerta de Alcalá and other possibilities. It is believed that a microfilm containing messages from the people of Madrid is stored inside the statue.$
