This is a close-up photo of Montipora coral (Montipora sp). It showcases the beautiful details and texture of the coral and its polyps. The colony was discovered and photographed in its natural condition on the reef within the lagoon of Majuro Atoll, located in the Marshall Islands, Pacific Ocean.
Close-up of Staghorn Coral Acropora sp. Typical for Acropora species: Always a polyp on top of every branch. Staghorn corals are among the fastest growing corals on reefs, and are excellent reef-builders. Staghorn corals often out-compete all other corals in shallow tropical reefs, however, their speed of growth (which can be up to 10 to 20 centimetres a year is balanced by the fragility of some of the structures, as they are easily damaged in storms allowing other coral species a chance of growth. Even if well hidden, the Coral Shrimp Vir philippinensis can be identified. Ngerchong Island, Palau, Micronesia, 7°6'57.48\

Diploastrea heliopora occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific Ocean in a depth range from 3-15m from the Red Sea and East Africa to Western Australia, to the Ryukyu Islands and Fiji. This is one of the most easily recognised and least variable of all massive corals. The diameter of a single corallite is 8-10 millimetres. Diploastrea heliopora forms dense, robust, dome-shaped coral colonies. This slow-growing (2 to 6 mm/year) coral has the potential to yield continuous paleoclimate records spanning up to 1000 years for the warmest waters on Earth, the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool, and has a long fossil history as a single recognizable species. \nThe foto was taken in day time, the tentacles are retracted, as they extended only at night. \nSoanggi Island, Banda Sea, Indonesia 4°19'34.3773 S 129°42'21.3856 E at 14m depth

Fungi sporulation is the process by which fungi produce and release spores, enabling them to reproduce, survive in adverse conditions, and disperse to new environments through asexual (conidia, sporangiospores) and sexual (ascospores, basidiospores) methods, triggered by environmental cues and involving complex developmental stages including initiation, maturation, and release, playing crucial roles in ecological balance, agriculture, biotechnology, and the food industry.

Detail of a Galaxea coral colony growing on a beautiful reef in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. This tropical region harbors epic marine biodiversity and is known as the heart of the Coral Triangle.
This Acropora table coral was seriously damaged, but the colony is regrowing over the damaged table. The white edges are the growing zones. \nObviously this colony has a high recovery potential and over all the resilience of the reef is exceptional: \nWhen the Banda volcano last blew its top in 1988, a large lava flow swept down the northern slope into the ocean, covering a large part of reef in volcanic rock. What many thought would be the total destruction of the reef has instead become one of the most incredible coral reefs in Indonesia. Measured from ground zero after the eruption in 1988, this particular reef is known to be the fastest growing coral in the world. \nLava Flow, Banda Neira Island, Indonesia, \n4°30'20.418 S 129°52'57.456 E at 9m depth
