Ghent is a port city in northwest Belgium, at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers.
It is a late Gothic church on the Veemarkt in Antwerp, the heart of the Schipperskwartier. After a turbulent history, the church has a particularly valuable art heritage. It is dedicated to the Apostle Paul and depends on the diocese of Antwerp. The St. Paul's site that you can visit includes a church with cloisters, a blissfully quiet Lourdes garden next to the monastery ruins and a unique Calvary garden with more than 60 statues.
The St. Martin's Cathedral, or Dom Church (Dutch: Domkerk) is the cathedral of the Diocese of Utrecht during the Middle Ages. Once the Netherlands' largest church, dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, it is one of the country's two pre-Reformation cathedrals. It has been a Protestant church since 1580. In 1674 the central portion of the cathedral with the nave collapsed in a storm, a tornado ripped through Utrecht causing many to die and split the cathedral in two. It has never been rebuilt, leaving the tower now isolated from the east end.
