$An overcast photo of the Lady of Lourdes Grotto/Shrine just before it was torn down in 2008. The trees to the right of it were chopped down and the stumps removed. The farmers have begun working the field to plant crops. The sky is dark and overcast with incoming rain. \nThe grotto was built on the Lourdes Farm, just south of Lethbridge, on Highway 4, owned by the ‘Brothers of Lourdes”. They were a charitable organization from Holland made up of clergy from the Roman Catholic Church. \nThe Grotto/Shrine seen here was built by them in 1955. Modelled after the Shrine of Lourdes in France, it was built with 2X4 wood pieces firmly nailed together and draped with burlap dipped in a concrete slurry. A statue of the Virgin Mary sat in the opening near the top. The bottom opening contained a small alter and candle racks with kneeler benches outside. The grotto was the location of religious ceremonies and was also open for people to worship and light candles. The fence was put in by new owners. Originally there was a turn off from the highway and an area to park.$

$Shades State Park Indiana has sandstone cliffs overlooking Sugar Creek, with many ravines and waterfalls. This park is adjacent to a better know Turkey Run State Park with similar hollows and waterfalls, but if you want less crowds, Shades is my favorite of the two. When young my Mom helped \$

May 17, 2021 - Grand River Township, Missouri, USA: This rock, called Preacher's Rock, and cultivated pecan orchard are part of Adam-ondi-Ahman, owned and maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a sacred spot for church members. Joseph Smith prophesied this would be a gathering place in the last days. This shot was taken on a wet spring day with cloudy skies in the background but lush greenery covering and surrounding the site.

Pine Hills Nature Preserve is a quiet, three and a half mile hike in Montgomery County, Indiana. The entrance to the nature preserve now is through Shades State Park. It is 470 acres, and the walk is steep and crosses hazardous areas like Devil's Backbone. It is a narrow natural bridge. Indian Creek cut deep gorges creating four narrow backbone ridges opening to larger Sugar Creek. I have been to Pine Hills many times, hardly seeing another visitor. Spring was a particular nice time to travel as the Virginia Bluebells and Redbud trees were blooming.

Wide shot of schist outcrop on the eastern slope of Mount Tom in Connecticut, where the rocks have been estimated to be 1.3 billion years old. Schist is a metamorphic rock, formed from tremendous pressure and heat. It constitutes much of the bedrock in this area. This rock is similar to the Manhattan schist found in New York City's Central Park.
