Joseph Hooker was an American Civil War general for the Union, chiefly remembered for his decisive defeat by Confederate General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Chancellorsville in 1863. Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA - February 27, 2024: A bronze statue of Charles Sumner, by sculptor Anne Whitney, is installed in General MacArthur Square in Cambridge, just outside of Harvard Yard and its Johnston Gate. The sculpture of Sumner, a popular local statesman, was commissioned by the Boston Art Committee shortly after his death in 1874. Charles Sumner was an academic lawyer, senator, politician and the head of the anti-slavery forces in Massachusetts. He was also the Radical Republicans leader during the Civil War and Reconstruction.
