Beneath its postcard beauty lies a painful history: in 1950, the creation of an artificial reservoir flooded the village of Curon, displacing nearly 150 families. The project, revived after WWII, had been planned since Austro-Hungarian times but executed without regard for local residents. Entire homes were lost, and many were forced to emigrate. Today, the submerged bell tower stands as a protected monument and a powerful reminder of what was sacrificed.
