Plants of the genus ( Lepidium ) belong to the mustard / cabbage family. Also called dittander, it was cultivated in culinary gardens for its leaves and horeradish-type root. Other names for this pepperwort ( Lepidium latifolium ) are broadleaved pepperweed, peppergrass, dittany, and tall whitetop. It is native to southern Europe, Mediterranean countries and Asia as far east as the Himalayas. It is an introduced species throughout North America and Australia.
