Golden Gate Park in San Francisco is an oasis of peace and beauty, and in one of its many interesting corners there was this beautiful field of irises.
The Rocky Mountain Iris (Iris missouriensis) is easily identified because it is the only iris species growing east of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges.  It blooms May to July in streambanks, meadows, woodland margins generally in moist locations, from near sea level to 11,000 feet elevation.  Most of the plants have a pale lavender colored flower.  This group of irises was photographed by the Two Spot Trail in the Rogers Lake County Natural Area near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
