On Vidovdan, June 28, 1937, in Nis, on - King Milan Square, the Monument to the Liberators of Nis was ceremoniously unveiled, one of the monuments by which the city of Nis is recognized. The monument was erected to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Nis from the Turks. The monument to the liberators of Nis is the work of sculptor Antun Avgustincic from Zagreb, and its erection, eighty years ago, was attended by the author himself and more than 10,000 citizens of Nis. At the ceremony, the monument was unveiled by Prince - Deputy Pavle Karadjordjevic. The monument is made of black marble and consists of a pedestal with four reliefs, on which there are bronze sculptures with a high pedestal, in the lower part of which a set of figural compositions of warriors in battle is shown.

The sculpture is by Augustus Saint-Gaudens who created it on May 31, 1897. It is located opposite 24 Beacon Street, next to the Boston Common. It is part of the historic Freedom Trail.

The memorial to Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts Fifty-Fourth Regiment is a bronze relief sculpture (c. 1897) by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It depicts Colonel Robert Gould Shaw leading members of the 54th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry as it marched down Beacon Street on May 28, 1863 to depart the city to fight in the South. This is the first civic monument to pay homage to the heroism of African American soldiers
