02 may 2024, Basse Yutz, Yutz, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand Est, France. It is spring. In a public park, in an open area with many bushes, a Melodious Warbler has perched on a hawthorn branch. The bird is seen from behind, the plumage on the back is darker. It turns its head to look behind it and has its beak open, it is singing. It is one of the best songbirds.

L 16,5-18ccm.\nBreeds in deciduous and mixed woods, preferring mature lofty deciduous with plenty of oak, hornbeam, beech, ash and elm. Also attracted to fruit trees, especially cherries, kernels of which it cracks with the powerful bill (can generate over 50kg force!). Diet also includes insects.\nVery wary and shy and difficult to observe, spends most time up in canopy or seen flying fast high up between woodland-edge trees.\nUsually nests well up in deciduous tree, against trunk or in fork, in fairly exposed site.\n\nThis is a quite scarce Finch Species in the Netherlands.
