Built between 1518 and 1589 by the architects Giacomo Della Porta and Domenico Fontana, the church was consecrated on 8 October 1589. This Catholic temple is the national church in Rome of France, dedicated to the figure of King St. Louis IX. Caravaggio painted this triptych between 1599 and 1600, illustrating The Vocation of Saint Matthew (left), The Inspiration of Saint Matthew (center) and The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew (right). The beautiful interior of the church of Santa Maria della Pace (Church of Saint Mary of Peace) in the historic heart of Rome, in the Piazza Navona district. Built in 1482 during the pontificate of Sisto IV, the church was designed in the Renaissance style with a trapezoidal plan and an octagonal cross by the architect Baccio Pontelli. In 1656 Pietro da Cortona designed the Baroque-style façade with a semi-circular colonnade. Inside the church, rich in numerous chapels, there are architectural and pictorial works by Raphael, Antonio da Sangallo, Rosso Fiorentino, Baldassarre Peruzzi and Orazio Gentileschi. East Doors (Gates of Paradise) by Lorenzo Ghiberti on Florence Baptistery (Battistero di San Giovanni) in Tuscany, Italy. These doors consist of 10 panels depicting scenes from the Old Testament and were commissioned in 1424. Once completed, they were described by Michelangelo as being fit to be the 'gates of paradise'. The doors displayed are now a copy of the original, with those being displayed in a local museum.
