Snapdragon is a garden plant of the genus Antirrhinum, which is available in many showy colors except blue. It is called snapdragon because the flower resembles the face of a dragon that opens and closes its mouth, while in Japan it is called gold fish flower for the flower’s resemblance to gold fish. It is treated as an annual plant, because it cannot survive summer heat, although it is essentially a perennial plant.
It grows on the edges of the forest, meadows and abandoned fields.
Goldenrod, native to North America, is an essential source of nectar for pollinators, especially late in the growing season when other nectar sources become scarce.
