Esther became Queen of Persia following Vashti. She did not reveal that she was Jewish. Her cousin, Mordecai, worked at the palace and happened to overhear some of the guards plotting to kill the king.He reported the plan and the king was saved. Haman was also a man working in the palace. He was promoted to a higher position and did not like Mordecai. He convinced the king to make a decree that would allow for all Jews to be killed. Esther learned of this plan and devised a plan of her own. The king learned that Mordecai had been the one who saved his life. Esther planned a banquet for the king and Haman. Haman thought that he was the only one invited. The king told him that he wanted to honor a certain man. Haman believed he was that man. He was terrified when he found out that Mordecai was the man the king wanted honored. Soon the plan Haman had made to kill Mordecai, Esther and all the Jews was uncovered. Haman was arrested and hanged. Mordecai was honored by the king. The king declared a new decree protecting the Jews. Mordecai and Esther rejoiced.
