Lepidium draba creamy white inflorescence
Plants of the genus ( Lepidium ) belong to the mustard / cabbage family. Traditionally, in Britain, this perennial cress was used as a pungent condiment, leading to one of its common names 'poor man's pepper'. Also called dittander, it was cultivated in culinary gardens for its leaves and horeradish-type root. Other names for this pepperwort ( Lepidium latifolium ) are broadleaved pepperweed, peppergrass, dittany, and tall whitetop. It is native to southern Europe, Mediterranean countries and Asia as far east as the Himalayas. It is an introduced species throughout North America and Australia.

Fruit almost rounded, 2mm, compressed in cross-section, smooth or with faint transverse ridges, the calyx reduced to tiny inconspicuous teeth; fruit clusters surrounded by a ruff of bracts.\nHabitat: Arable land and waste land, roadsides, , cliffs, dunes, on sandy or calcareous soils, generally at low attitudes.\nFlowering Season: April-June.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except much of the north.\n\nThis is a quite common Weed in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.
