Rocket pincushion (Leucospermum reflexum) is a large rounded shrub that is assigned to the family Proteaceae. Flowers are mostly dark orange (rarely pale yellow) from which long, identically colored styles emerge, which are directed straight down during flowering. It is also called skyrocket leucospermum in English and perdekop (horse head) in Afrikaans. It flowers from the end of August to December. It is an endemic species that can only be found in the southwest of South Africa.

The hia lehua, Metrosideros polymorpha, is a species of flowering evergreen tree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, that is endemic to the six largest islands of Hawaii.  Many native Hawaiian traditions refer to the tree and the forests it forms as sacred to Pele, the volcano goddess, and to Laka, the goddess of hula.
